Okay, I'm confused. The consensus here seems to be to bet the flop. I'm not sure why. We have mptk, but no redraw. The board is very coordinated, with a flush draw. What is the flop bet for? To get it heads up with villian? Any flush draws are coming along for the ride. Please help me understand this.

Betting the flop into the maniac with your MPTK is quite good, because it is likely that the maniac will raise and face the rest of the field with having to call 2 bets cold.

Then you have a good chance of playing heads up against the maniac, with probably the better hand.

A flush draw will still come along for the ride, but would prefer not to have to call 2 bets with only 2 other opponents.

Also you have up to 5 outs to improve to either trips or 2 pair, if your hand is not best.

Against this player I would have reraised the flop. Since you did not, reraise the flop, you set up the perfect opportunity to check raise the turn.

Value bet the river, I doubt the spade helped him.

You think going for the c/r is worth the risk of having the turn check through? I think i would have to be darn sure he is betting any two here.

Grunching:

Is this some sort of joke? You should be going to war with a hand as great as A9s against a maniac. Even UI you have a good chance of being best. But you flopped 2nd pair! And then you improved to aces up on the river and just checked? WTF? Are you sure you didn't typo and meant to say "CO is uber-rock who only bets with the stone cold nuts?"

Thanks. I'm still not sure I want to bet this flop. A backdoor draw would help. I do tend to be a little weak-tight, but I'm learning.

He bets and raise with nada, zip, ziltch nothing aat all.

As for the turn SNG, I still don't see the advantage of waiting. We're obviously seeing a showdown. If he's a true maniac, capping the flop doesn't cost us a chance to exploit a larger equity edge on the turn since he'll bet/raise the turn anyways. So we might as well get the value-bets in on the flop too.
If he's not a true maniac, I'm not crazy about opening ourselves up to a turn cap with second pair.
