Default AA in Position (I need to control myself and the pot I think)

Party 50NL 6max
At work so no hand converter, sorry.
MP1 ($168) minraises lots of junk PF, calls about anything on the flop, will fold to turn aggression without something, but that something can be as little as TPNK. SB ($15) just got to the table, bought in short, and lost $10 on the previous hand with no showdown.
Me on the button with $71 and rockets.

Folded to MP1 who minraises. I raise to $4 (too small?). SB calls, MP1 calls.

Flop 8 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 4 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 2 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img].
MP1 checks. I bet $9 (too big?). SB calls (?). MP1 calls (!).

Turn 9 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]
MP1 checks. I bet $30. SB1 all-in (obviously). MP1 calls (!!)

MP1 checks, hero?

check behind, it's a protected pot and he's not calling you down with nothing.

I suppose you have to check behind. He's only going to call or raise you with a better hand (probably a set or maybe a weird two pair). Maybe, though, he's got something like KK or QQ... With the short stack, you never know.

Why should the fact that the pot is protected prevent Hero from value betting the river here? There is a side pot.

thoughts on other streets? Was I pushing too hard or not enough? my biggest adjustment switching from limit (as others in this forum have noted) is playing big starting hands against people who love to call.

I think your line is OK on other streets. Amounts are good too: appropriately aggressive. Like I said, its tough to put short-stack on anything, and bigger stack is most likely drawing (was drawing) or TPTK (not likely he has two pair with no raise on either flop or turn). However, he'll lay down those hands on the river, and hence he only raises with hands that beat you. Thats why betting the river is not a good idea. I think you take down this pot (at least from the larger stacked guy).

MP1 (or SB for that matter) could have flopped trips, I think. Although, 9-9, 10-10 or J-J might be played the same way by MP on the flop (and makes it even more possible when he checks the K on the river).

You have only two choices here in my opinion. Check or Push. I mean, the pot is already $90+ at this point and any bet you make less than your remaining stack (~$28) and he's going to probably put you all in anyway, right?

Personally, I probably check and hope he didn't trap me. But, this isn't really a case of "you'll only get a call if you're beat". If he does have JJs or 10s, then the K definitely scared him, but he'd probably still call $28 into a $120 pot. And if he flopped a set... well.

I think your pre-flop raise was about right.... I'd like to see how others would have played this.

What's wrong with pushing? It's not like a tricky situation where he might check/raise you on the river or anything like that, and your read is that this guy will call down with not much.

Easy value push IMO - you will be called by hands you beat more than you are called by hands that beat you.

Value bet the rest of your stack. You may be behind to SB, but I cant see how you would be losing to MP here on his ultra passive line
