Default Kings? What is this game?

After a tournament out of which I busted early, the sidegames started up and one table was playing some non-poker game called "Kings". I wasn't seated there and couldn't follow what was happening. Anyone know a game by this name?

Hoyle's Rules of Games lists a format called "Kings In The Corners" or "Kings Corners". here's a site:

I played Kings in the Corner with my grandma at age 8. I can't imagine people would gamble on this game. By age ten, I'm pretty sure I had close to optimal strategy.

The game is about as complicated as crazy 8's.

I sometimes play a game called "Kings and Little Men" in my home game. It's a Guts variant, where everybody gets 5 cards. Players all decide simultaneously whether to hold or drop. Those who hold get to draw, as in 5-card draw. Then everyone shows their hand. All kings, and the lowest ranking cards in each hand are wild (e.g. KQQ44 would be 5 queens, or KQ443 would be 4 4's). Best hand takes the pot, and everyone who held and lost has to match the pot.

If only one player holds, he draws as normal and shows his hand. Then a 5-card "bitch" hand is dealt, and the rest of the table decides which cards to draw and hold. If the player wins, he takes the pot, if he loses, it's either a draw, or he has to match the pot, depending on which version of the rules is in play.

This is definitely a game more oriented towards home games than casino games, so it may not be what they were playing. Multiple wilds and drawing mean you'll often see a royal flush lose to 5 of a kind. I do think it's more likely than King's Corner, though.

I use to play this with my mother-in-law. Once I figured on the best strategy I had to quit playing, she is such a poor loser. Still, it can be fun, especially if I want to rock the boat.
