Default when a LAG raises my blind and I miss the flop

$1/$2. I'm BB with A [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 9 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]. MP1 raised, and it folded to me.

MP1 is a total LAG. He raised my last BB as well, that time, SB called him. The flop was J83, rainbow. SB bet out, and MP1 raised. The turn was a 6, SB checked and called MP1's bet. The river was a K, and SB check/called again. MP1 showed K5.

So, how do I play him this hand if I miss the flop?

HU with you and this goon? It depends a lot on the flop texture. What were the cards? How likely are you to have the best hand?

In general, I'd be thinking about getting to showdown cheaply, but it depends a lot on flop texture.

What does flop texture matter when he could have anything?

on a board like 8JQ 2-tone, he is far more likely to have a piece or a draw. These are the kinds of flops where you might end up folding. Whereas on a flop like TT3 you will most likely be good and he can't have too many outs

If I decide to play A9o against a LAG, and its folded to me in the blind, I would certainly 3Bet pre-flop, keep control of the agresion.

I don't like 3-betting OOP with such a marginal hand, especially if the LAG is prone to cap (and it sounds like he will).

yeah, 3-betting is much more effective against weak players.

He's weak preflop, it's heads up, and you have a hand that is better than every hand or "coinflip" other than TT-AA and AT-AK. Why are we not 3-betting this? You have to 3-bet and lead out, no matter what falls on the flop.
