Default online vs Live

I always hear people say how "there are sooooo many bad players online". I find that live players are 10 times worse. I play mainly 2-4 up to 5-10 online and 10-20 live. I find that even the 2-4 online games are generally tighter than 10-20 live. There are many more coldcallers preflop live than online. Of course there are often maniacs online, but most online players are decent.Does anyone agree? Why do you think this is?

Players live are much worse than online so what you are experiencing is normal.

Agreed. Realize that to play on-line you have to seek it out, make an electronic funds transfer of one kind or other. It takes some work, so only those committed to playing/learning make the effort. In a casino people want to play the hottest game. Right now it's poker. 10 years ago it was BJ b/c of the MIT guys. Before that it was craps. They are in a casino on vacation for fun. The on-line players are there to learn and play serious- mainly.

I think you are being too general.

The game I play the most in is a spread limit game with a max bet of 150 and a minimum of 2 or 5. The game can and often does result in some pretty deep stacks in comparison to the minimum bet aka the BB. It is not uncommon to see stacks that are >200BB deep.

I have played with people that did not know the hand ranks all the way to WSOP braclet winners in this game and every level in between.

IME the real difference is in the number of weak/bad players at a table.

Online I expect to only see 1-3 fish at a table, they are taking a shot at a higher limit, are on tilt, or just do not understand the stakes, i.e. they deposit $500 and then go sit a $400NL game.

Live most nights I expect to see at least 50% or more of the table be weak/bad.
