Default Am I a fish and don\'t know it?

Okay, I'm about to lose it here. I'm one of the best players in the circle of people that I play with most frequently. I know the numbers pretty well. I can spot your tells and put you on a hand with pretty good accuracy. I can lay down big hands. I can raise with bottom pair if I know it's good. I'm really a decent player. Problem is the .05/.10 NL game online. I had taken $25 up to $140 and over the past week I'm back down to $40. I don't know what is so different all of a sudden. I'm playing the right hands. I'm of course getting the suck outs but I figure that comes with this level and I need people to take those kind of long odds because that's supposedly where my profit will come from. Well, where is it? I'll let the "FISH" 3-bet 10-2 all day because they heard Doyle won with it twice but I just don't see the odds or the money for that matter swinging back in my favor.

I know this sounds somewhat like a rant, but I really need to figure this out. Like I said, I'm a good player but the internet game has got me all turned around. Living in Denver I need to be able to beat this game. If anyone can offer some sound advice on how to go about it better I would really appreciate it.
Thanks!

sounds like you are playing no limit. You'll get a 'better' response there. I'd tone it down a bit though otherwise you are just going to get flamed. People on this site dont like statements like "I'm a decent player" without something to back it up. You'll also get lots of "don't be results orientated" responses. Play good poker, put the time in, let the money take care of itself.

If you are the decent player you say you are then you wouldn't have posted this. Get some books, study them, post some hands, discuss other peoples hands, read books again.

"I'm really a decent player." and "over the past week I'm back down to $40" don't make sense in the same paragraph. A week is nothing.

What the other posters said is good to keep in mind. Poker is a game of variance. You can have a bad week and still be a good player. There is no way you can win all the time. What you are probably running into the normal variance that occurs in poker. It sounds like you are playing NL so that variance is going to be higher.

The issue with "don't be results oriented" is a good idea. If you play right, and your opponents are playing wrong then you will make money in the long term. There will be the suck outs (and they are annoying and really aggravating) when people make those calls they will loose money to you in the long run. Your sample size is really too small to be able to tell if you are "good" or "bad" player. One good week does not make you a good player, and one bad week does not make you a bad player. Long term good play makes you a good player.

Don't be surprised if there are a few flames on this post. We, in general, are hard on posters. But you can learn a lot from the same people that flame you on other posts. Read the forums and you will see what people consider "flame-worthy" and we consider a good question. Also read the microlimits sticky. After you do that post some hands that you want feedback on. And you can start to see what we think in certain situations.

Also if you play NL, i would post on the no limit forum. You will get more specific answers.

Good luck with your play and welcome to the boards.

Ok, in my usual fashion I'll let the others on the forum answer the substantive questions, and instead I'll ask a completely irrelevant question of my own: what the hell does living in Denver have to do with anything?

There are no casinos or card rooms in denver. Have to play online.
