Raise PF UTG w/ 88!?! Are you crazy? This would probably put your PFR around 15-20%

You better play damm well post flop.

Depending on the table texture, there's nothing wrong with raising 88 UTG. You're raising 99 UTG right? This isn't that far off. I think 77 is much closer.

I think it's likely that villian could have 99-QQ here. By betting, I represent the A and/or K. Since villian didn't raise the flop, I figured he probably didn't have an A. That's why I bet the turn again, trying to get a K, or 99-QQ to fold.

The limp re-raise just made the hand much more difficult to play.

I haven't been getting good results recently raising 77-99 pf from early. Too many times, I raise utg, get two cold-callers, and flop comes one or two overs. I bet flop, someone raises, and I fold. Or, I bet flop, they call, I check-fold turn.

Limping a mid pocket pair lets me evaluate the strength of my opposition's hands at a lower cost. Also, if I like the flop and bet, people will give me more credit for a hand when I limp than when I raise pf.

In this scenario, I felt that villian's 3-betting range could easily include AJ-AK, KJ-KQ, and maybe even QJ. His postflop play was lacking and I felt that after it became heads up pf, I should take the lead by 3-betting.

If I was your opponent in this hand and I had a Ace I would be calling the flop and turn and raising the river. You either have AA or you have a hand I don't want you to stop betting.
