cold calling a nut straight on the turn?

5/10 NL mandalay bay, 9 handed.

i have 1000 or so behind. MP2, and CO limp, i check in BB with KQo.

CO is a TAG, a respectable player, and does not get out of line.

flop is J95 rainbow. i check, MP2 (600) bets 20, CO (400) calls, i call.

turn is a offsuit T, completing the rainbow. i lead out for 60, MP2 folds, CO raises to 160, i call.

river 7. i check.

Put the CO in either on the turn or the river, I guess you could wait until the river. He only has 320. He'll commit after raising you to 160. He probably has a hand he's willing to go all in with if he is raising 30% of his stack. If he had 1000 then it looks good.

I like the turn play a lot. I hate the river check. Put him in, because your call really disguises your hand and (as AZK already said) if he's raising on the turn then he is probably committed to call on the river.

In the alternative, make at least a value bet, and you might get another raise.

If he bet after your check, you raised, and all the money went in, good for you.

The turn play sucks IMO...shove this player all-in when he raises 100. The pot is just the right size for it vs his stack. If he fills he fills, if he ties they were going in anyways on a chop. He is calling with a set, and may fold a 2 pair that could hurt you. I like pushing all-in to his raise on the turn.

all right i'll post my reasoning.

the reason i just called, is that i actually put my opponent on the same hand, but i didn't know if it was KQ or 78. he would've raised with a set or two pair on the flop, and certainly would not have called with just TT on the flop.

i figured, if i just called the turn, and the board paired, i would stick it in there all in, for folding equity. if i had put my opponent squarely on a set, i would've raised all in on the turn for sure. i called, wanting to perhaps represent a set.

however, there is also a good possibility that my call might look like i'm drawing to a straight myself, and another possibility is if the opponent has the lower straight, i might be able to make him bet at me by checking, but would lose him if i set him in on the river.

Put them in on the turn. He has to call with a set, vs on the river he doesn't have to -- if he thinks he's beat. River bets are sweeter though, 100% equity when you're ahead. But, if he had the bad end of the straight, you've accomplished nothing since he was drawing dead, and the 4 card straight might kill the action.

Sorry to hijack this thread, but does Mandalay Bay regularly spread a 5/10 NL game? I was in Vegas in November and only saw a 2/4 NL game there. I'm going back next month and might be looking to play higher.

I don't believe so. They asked the players, and because there was enough demand, they opened up a 5/10 NL game. They had 5 2/5 NL games going and 5 limit games going. Then switched a 2/5 to 5/10.
