Drum solos and bass solos are boring.

Although, I do agree that bass solos often do go the way of the drum solo, I have heard a couple that weren't all bad. Most of the time, yes they do suck, but occasionally you do find a good one.

Drum solos are lame.

True, but I did enjoy the drum solo in "Matmos - The Precise Temperature of Darkness". But then again, this track is only for people who like really friggin wierd avant-garde [censored]. The concept behind the track is that you have to put up with 10 minutes of really horrid violin noises, which eventually get killed by a pretty awesome big-bang style drum solo......

I once went to an Allman Brothers concert and the guy lashed out into a 35 minute drum solo. I will never go to an Allman Brothers concert again. Drum solos are worthless and although I appreciate great drumming, there is never such a thing as a good drum solo. It just doesn't work.

A friend told me of an old Santana concert where the drummer was so high he didn't notice that he had hit his hand on the rim of the drum and split it open. So he continued the drum solo with a large cut in his hand, spraying blood all over the stage and front rows of the audience. Now that is one hell of a drum solo.

uh - Clyde Stubblefield - Funky Drummer. One of the most sampled ever.

This is more of a break than a solo. Greatest breaks can be a whole other thread in and of itself.
