I am going to make the assumption that as a 2/4 player you have the skills to beat this juicy 15/30 game (although most likely this is an extremely faulty assumption.)

[/ QUOTE ]
This is more than "extremely faulty", its fucking retarded. No matter how good you are at playing 2/4 you are not inherently a winner at 15/30. The bad players at 15/30 are bad in a very different way than players are bad at 2/4. 15/30 players are bad-aggressive, 2/4 players are bad-passive. That change in game texture is really really important.

I consider myself a pretty solid 2/4 limit player. I found an EXTREMELY juicy 15/30 game with 50%+ seeing the flop and passive players. I have about a 10k BR. Would it be that bad of an idea to invest $1000 to test out the game?

[/ QUOTE ]

You're playing 2/4 with a 2500BB roll??? Jeez, at 15/30 you've got over 300BB. Maybe your skills aren't up to 15/30 yet, but you should definitely move up to SOMETHING bigger than 2/4.

I can't believe people are telling you to not do it.

You can afford dropping 1k, it's a juicy game, why WOULDN'T you take a shot? It's +EV. Yeah, maybe you'll lose the 33BB. But maybe not.

And to all those going on about how 15/30 is LAG, etc. etc. -- this game obviously wasn't. He said they were pretty passive. So what's the harm? He's not gambling his whole BR (and even if he was, he's got the 300BB he needs.)

why not just take a shot at 3/6 or 5/10? 15/30 will eat you alive if you're not used to the aggression, and the only way you get used to it is by gradually moving up in limits (which get more and more aggressive). then again, if 1k doesn't mean that much to you (i.e. you don't have any expenses) then why the hell not.

I've built up my BR mainly by casino bonus whoring. Yes, the money means pretty much nothing to me. It's completely profit and I'm a college student. My expenses, not counting tuition, are about $100-$200 a month. I haven't moved up in limits because I've been playing different types... 2/4 NL, shorthanded NL, some heads up, some SNGs, etc.

I agree, I'm suprised at all the negativity. With a bankroll that large, what's the harm? You're not taking food off the table, you're just taking a shot with 10% of your bankroll. Sure, it's a little reckless, but if losing a grand isn't going to cause you irreperable harm and you're not going to go on tilt and keep playing to chase your losses if it goes poorly, go for it! Just make sure you go into it with the right attitude.

And recognize that playing a higher limit than your used to is tough... and playing a MUCH higher limit is even harder. Make sure you go into it with your A-game, don't play weak-tight because of the stakes.

He specified that in this game the players were loose passive; presumably like a typical 2/4 game.

Assuming a game like Party 2/4 a good player IMO needs no more than 200BB, if the game is like this 10k is fine. Given the information we have been given, I see no problem.

Just an update... I've been playing in the game for about 6 hours over 2 days. Thanks for everyone that encouraged me. The game is absolutely crazy. It's worse than party .5/1. The swings are pretty big with the chasers (relatively) but I'm doing well. I'm up $1000. This was my favorite hand of the night.

UTG with KK. I raise. FIVE callers. Flop is something like Q 4 2r. I bet. Someone raises. I 3-bet. 3 other people end up coming along.

Turn is a 9. I bet. Call call call.

River is a 6. I bet. Call, fold, fold. Villain has 64o. He has the first person to cold call my raise.

I like this game.

Another hand that made me wish they had unlimited raising heads up:

I have A9 in SB. Three limpers. I complete. BB checks.

Flop is A 9 2 with two [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]. I have no diamonds. I bet. Two callers.

Turn is 3[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]. I bet. EP limper folds and MP raises. I call.

River is a 9. I bet. Villain raises. I 3-bet. He caps. I call. He has A3o.
