I always seem to hang onto these hands too long. What should i have done with it? No reads

You can very well be behind 67, 89, or 88. Reads would be helpful to see if your opponent would have open-limped with 88 or 99 fron MP2. Its probably just as likely that your opponent is on a spade draw with 1 pair and possibly a gutshot. I'd say 50/50 between drawing dead to 3 outs (discount 1 if opponent is on 89) or you are ahead but opponent is drawing to 10 outs.
It is certainly worth calling one on the turn since you are getting 7-1. If a spade comes I fold the river, otherwise I check call like you did. Edited to say: I would think that if MP2 flopped the straight, he would have raised the flop to try and protect it with 2 spades out there. Same goes for 89 and the set. Again, a read on postflop aggression would have been helpful. |
