3-6 is an improvement on 2/4, and frankly 4/8 or 5/10 would be even better, though maybe not if those stakes prevented a game from going.

I don't play all of the games in HORSE so I cannot explain why, but when we tried to get a 4/8 HORSE table going at the Borg they wouldn't allow it because two of the games (stud & stud 8 perhaps) had to be played with odd denominations. They could spread 5/10 theoretically, but since they don't have any other 5/10 games they would not allow it.

Can someone explain to me why it can't be played as 4/8?

Good. I will be at the MGM Grand June 18th. Save me a seat! Actually, I may be with as many as 4 other players, and if anyone is interested in running this game at the 4/8 or higher maybe we can get one going.

I don't have an "official" explanation, other than that while I love the Borg, they're total effing tightwads there. Its all stud or hold'em, all the time. Try to get an O/8 game going some time... just try. I wish you luck. Maybe Monday at 6AM if you have 15 guys asking, or if you want to play 8 billion/16 billion, but otherwise you're SOL.

MGM's management, on the other hand, will as someone said, spread 5 card draw with jokers if you get enough people on a list. They're flexible, and very player friendly -- I can't begin to say how refreshing it is to see that.

As for the specifics of HORSE, there are a number of variables that were in constant flux during the MGM games I played two weekends ago. At first, HORSE was 2/4 with a $1 ante on the stud rounds. Bad structure. We played dealer's choice once per orbit, with the person on the left of the current "dealer" chosing the game next dealer down. We also had a rule that the "dealer" could change the game ONCE during their down. Strange, but no big deal.

The next night, it was 2/4 with the $1 ante again, but a different game every orbit, rather than every dealer down. A $4 rock was in play the entire time, at my behest. This night as with the previous, we had two "absent" buttons rotate during the stud rounds to keep the action 8 handed.

The third night, we abandoned the "absent" button thing and just played 10 handed stud. Purists would be pissed, but it worked fine, we never once had to go to commuinity cards. The structure changed for the better as well, 3/6 HORSE with $0.50 antes and a $1 bring in for stud rounds. This is still a little non-ideal, but IT WORKED FINE. Sounds like the Borg guys were letting the perfect be the enemy of the good.

Ideally, the HORSE game would go 4-8, with $0.50 antes, a $1 bring in, at a 9 handed table. The Hold'em and O/8 rounds would play with some kind of a kill. Games would change once per dealer down, with players selecting the next game on a clockwise rotating basis. This kept the interest level high, since a fixed HORSE rotation might motivate someone new to the game to either not sit down during Stud/8 or just not join the game altogether if they didn't know stud/8 or just didn't like it.

Now if there was only a way to get Centrifuge to get a little more variety in its music selection, things would be even better... "3, 2, 1, reeeeee-miiiiixxxxx... I wanna rock..." gets a little old after the 879th time.

dice are you the young guy who had the table full of hot girls at the "training table" around the 10th of may? If so, I continue to admire you.

At any rate, MGM dealers rock, if you guys deal me some decent cards next trip I'll like you even more.

A-***king-MEN!!! Try working there...at least you can get up and leave anytime you want to...

Yes, the first strip casino to offer a low limit H.O.R.S.E. game, to my knowledge... Beginning Thursday night, and pretty much throughout the WSOP, anyone interested in playing $2-$4 H.O.R.S.E., the MGM has been spreading the game. This is also good news for the "Magoos", or whoever may have been worried about the capabilities of MGM dealers making it through a 1/2 hour down on those kind of mixed games. Everything seemed to be fine the last couple of nights. Just go into the poker room and let them know you are interested in starting up a game (if 1 isn't running already) and I'm sure they'll accomodate... Thursday's game went from about 8pm til 3am before it broke, and Fridays game was from 9pm until about 430am...

OMG. This thread is giving me wood. I am so playing in this game next week. Please tell me that Razz/Stud/Stud8 all have some sort of ante.

[/ QUOTE ]

They do not have half dollar chips there so we played 3/6 with $1 ante on Friday night. Great Game.

I'll be in town next week. I'll gladly just play this for kicks, but I'd prefer to play 4-8 or higher. I don't plan on making my way to the MGM too often, so if folks want to set something up, then let's do so. I'm also looking to hit MGM's mexican restaurant Diego at some point, so maybe people would be interested in dining and then, forgive me, horsing around.
And is 10-20 limit hold 'em actually going off regularly now?

Good post. Great news. I would be shocked, dismayed and flamoozeled if other strip poker rooms did not start offering mixed games at lower limits. I would love a 10-20 HORSE or even 4-8 or 5-10 if they think that would fly. Those of us who like a little variety during a long visit would be glad to see these games sprouting up in more places. My thanks to Brunson for putting out PP 2 and making me crazy for the other games again.

Good on the MGM! Now if they'd just let one of the lions wander around the card room....
