I do, but in this case, she has to make that call to pick up the pot a decent % of the time she misses (AND) get paid off when she hits; both are tough, as they're often contradictory.

It's tougher to do this, as well, when one is out of position, also, stacks are not deep enough to warrant calling this on implied odds.*

edit - ok, stacks are 700, once villain makes flop bet effective stack is 600. if vanessa calls pot is about 200. She's going to hit the gutshot about 1 in 11; So if she loses 60 (the flop bet) 10 times, she's -600 there, then once she needs to get villains stack to make it +. Problem is, this assumes a. she always gets paid off and b. villain has no redraw equity. Reality is both are far from the truth, as sometimes villain has nothing (but taking the pot away later is tough) and sometimes he has a big something (ie 4flush, turn is Qd, you get all in he's favorite, or he has 2pair or set, and has outs when you turn Q)

personally, and im by no means right, but my default is to raise pot with ATo, im folding to a reraise (even if its "cheap") and i'd pot this flop. if I limped, i'd fold to the raise. if i limped and did call, i think leading for pot is better then check calling a (near) pot bet, but check folding isn't terrible.

nothing about the way this hand was played is wrong. I don't feel it should be a standard line tho. Preflop raise>fold> call imo. Flop bet>fold>call imo. Turn c/r>bet>fold imo. However i do all 3 on all 3 streets some % of the time (opp/metagame dependent).

hi Duck,

honestly, limping with AT offsuit and then calling a raise heads-up from someone who has position and a not-very-deep stack is just not very profitable IMO - it's weak....depending on how the table has been reacting to your aggressive image, sometimes raising this might be okay....but really, I don't think you lose by just tossing this hand in the muck....especially if you've been running bad, why not tighten up a little - it tends to make decisions a lot easier and is something I like to do when I've been taking it on the chin......the flop/turn play is great and very sophisticated and perfect for situations completely unlike this one - I like saving it for when you're deeper and running good and have position and a slightly different image and have a good read on your opponent....
