Here is a RGP thread that discusses this very issue. You might recognize a poster or two....

That's an interesting thread, but the issue it discusses is pretty different. One initial huge buyin is different from rebuys. Also, note that Feduniak specifies that only Hero is allowed to rebuy. If others can rebuy as well, then I think more information is needed to make a good assessment of the problem, as your EV is no longer going to be a function of just your stack size, but also how much the prize pool has been inflated by others and how their stacks impact your chances.

Yes it's not the exact problem that Strassa posed, but I think it's pretty clear that a good player can rebuy many, many times in this fashion before it becomes unprofitable to do so.

And I doubt it ever gets "fixed" as long as they're juicing rebuys.

I think coming out of the rebuy with more than 20 BB does not do a lot for you. So, if I had to make a guess, I would say make your goal 20BB for the first level out of the rebuy, try to get there normally (1 immediate rebuy + 1 add on) but if you look like you arent going to be shy of say 15BB try to sneak a rebuy or two in.

[/ QUOTE ]

do I read you right, you are saying that coming out of the rebuy period with blinds at 50-100, an 8k stack is not much better than a 2k stack?

Seriously?

If they aren't going to fix this bug where you can go all in and rebuy, and ignoring any possible bankroll considerations, whats the optimal strategy cheating like this? I feel like just cheating and rebuying like mad is OK, especially if you are at like table 1 and those chips will be around for me to continue to cheat. But do you ever stop cheating at some point? IE, do you get to a point where cheating is not worth the extra 1k chips?

The structure, for those who don't know, is you start with 1k, and you can rebuy 1k whenever you are at 1k or less. Turns out you can cheat whenever all your chips are all in.

Recently I've been cheating until I get to the 8-l3k range which is always among the chip leaders, but it usually costs me a bunch to cheat like this.

FYP.

The rules for the rebuy state that you cannot rebuy unless you have 1k or less. Taking advantage of a bug is just another angle shot and shouldn't be tolerated any more than any other abuse. The rules do not require the tourney participants to have a bankroll large enough to sustain the variance associated with 100 all-ins in the first 10 minutes just because someone else at the table can afford it. I am sure people disagree because the bug can *theoretically* be exploited by all, but that's my opinion.

I suspect, just play your normal max EV game, and if you ever find yourself all in rebuy.

Its making bad plays just to get all in so you can have a rebuy that worries me.

Reminds me of the paradise bug where you can go all in UTG and miss your blinds if you loose.

Please.

Listen, I dont expect others to not take any advantage they have, and as far as I know party may have even done this on purpose, who am I even to say this is a bug. Silly goose.

Interesting theoretical question, but I agree with Jax that this is clearly cheating. At the very least it violates the spirit of the rules.
