Re: Check raised with top pair on a paired board.
He was in the BB. He could have J3 for all you know. I rarely see players at this level making semi-bluff check/raises, so I drop it like it's hot.

Re: Check raised with top pair on a paired board.
I think it depends on the table. On a passive table with little pre-flop raising, I don't mind limping early with suited face cards. I wouldn't argue if someone said that this is a pre-flop fold OOP, though.

Re: Check raised with top pair on a paired board.
$10 says that you would be more likely to bet QJs on this flop than A3s. Even if you wouldn't be (which would be good) your opponents almost certainly would be. Therefore checking is actually scarier than betting to typical opponents here. Check the flop and hope it gets checked through. If it is bet, then you can determine to call or fold based on the nature of the bettor. If a club hits the turn and someone comes alive, or if you see serious action (like a bet and a raise) then you can easily drop it. The only way for you to make any money off this hand is to check/call bets from a weaker Q. Keep that in mind and fold if that doesn't look like it is the situation you are presented with (hint: this doesn't look like it.)

why give a free card to clubs and overcards? do you not think a pot sized bet takes it down here often enough?

Re: Check raised with top pair on a paired board.
I would have checked here and folded to any strong betting. 1. The pot is small
2. You are dominated by AJ, KJ 3. You are up against a flush draw 4. The field is large 5. Blinds were not raised so anybody could have a 3 |

I think that a pot sized bet here just commits a lot of chips when you are behind. I think it is much more likely that you are behind than that you are ahead AND that a free card will hurt you. If the flop is checked around, then I will bet on the turn, but still probably not full pot (I rarely bet full pot, though.) |
