Default The Yankees Won the Championship Series!

The Yankees scored 45 runs while the Red Sox only scored 41. By a 52% to 48% margin, the Yankees are the clear winners. Certainly, the team with the must runs overall should win. Who can argue with that?

Oh, and Gore won in 2000 too.

Not bad. But it still bugs you that you lost the Popular vote.

When the Kansas City Royals beat the St. Louis Cardinals in the World Series (1985?), Bill James, perhaps the most brilliant baseball analyst since Branch Rickey, in response to some suggesting that the Royals had been lucky since umpire Don Denkinger's blown call had played a major part in Kansas City coming back from a three games to one deficit, said the Royals were clearly the superior team, citing, among other things, that they had scored so many more runs in the series.

When three Dodgers shared the World Series MVP trophy in 1981, James tried to show how one of them clearly deserved the award. One piece of "evidence" he used was to show how, if the order of the games was changed, it would be clear how player X would have been chosen the MVP.

And of course our Best and Brightest led us into disaster into Vietnam because they were superb at measuring things that had no meaning.

Three example of something you, of all people, should be well aware of: GIGO.
