While I see the femininity of some of these cars, others I'm just not seeing it. Maybe I'd see it better with some examples of masculine cars to contrast. What's a manly car that costs <$30k?

[/ QUOTE ]
WRX
RX-8 (not overtly manly per se, but it's a man's car)

[/ QUOTE ]

I don't know that I'd call WRX a manly car. Don't get me wrong, Subarus are great and all, and the WRX is quite impressive in terms of performance, but the looks of it doesn't exactly ooze masculinity. Like an earlier poster said, a 1960s or 1970s muscle car would probably be about as masculine as you get, or maybe a full-size truck, not one with off-road package and big tires, but a regular work truck.

Well, first, I assumed that we were talking about current cars, not old ones. Quite frankly, not a lot of contemporary cars "ooze" masculinity, certainly not many under $30k. Second, the question asked about cars, not trucks.

I thought the whole reason the WRX was introduced to N. America was because it did so well in the offroad rallys. That doesn't sound chick to me.

You're right, so if we keep this discussion to current cars only I'd have to say there are very few cars that I'd classify as "masculine." One exception might be the new Dodge Charger, I really like the looks of it.

I don't know. I like what they're trying to do with it, even if it comes off as just following Ford's lead with the Mustang, but it just doesn't seem to work right. I think the new Mustang did a much better job of blending the old muscle car look with more modern design. That said, this is definitely a man's car.

No arguing about the offroad prowess of the Subaru. I just don't think big spoilers on small cars look all that cool. To me it looks more goofy than masculine...

I have no respect for a man who drives a BMW Z3 or Z4.
