Default An Observation: Betting Speed = Tell

Feel free to confirm or deny this observation, but I have noticed that most people who have the bet/raise check-box checked usually have the goods, while most people who bet very quickly without using the bet/raise box usually do not.

My theory is that people think (myself included) that using the bet/raise check-box looks too much like a bluff, so they will only use it when they want a call. On the other hand, people who click bet or raise really quickly are trying to use the "intimidation" factor to scare you out of the pot without giving it away as a bluff.

This is clearly player dependent, but there is definitely something to timing tells. I usually use them to sway a close decision but not to make a decision.

I agree that using the check box - instantaneous action - is usually done w/ the goods. A non-instant but fast speed can mean a lot of things, such as having the goods but not wanting to use the check boxes.

When I have the nuts, I like to wait until the clock is almost out before betting. My opponents hate me so much they raise. LOL!

Seriously, though...the only online tell that I think you can really give credence to is the instacheck. Means that villain most likely has check/fold checked off.

Any information garnered from the speed with which someone acts online is inherently suspect.

I would like to disagree with your statement. Given a large enough sample, you would be able to make profitable calls/folds based COMPLETELY on the average player's tendency towards a certain action.

sometimes I used the auto buttons for every action no matter what. I gotta quite doing that though because I do think it scares some people out of calls.

I think this is risky. You're assuming that the person you are "reading" has a fast connection, with not enough happening on his PC to bog him down, and that he's not playing 8 tables and involved in three hands simultaneously.
