who is derb?

[/ QUOTE ]

Someone who wins too often with weak and marginal hands. Clearly, he is a Frankensteinen amalgamation of all Phil Hellmuth's opponents.

On the river he seems to bet very liberally

[/ QUOTE ]

I agree with your analysis except for the above.
People seem to want to pidgeonhole him as a hyper-aggressive player, but this is not quite true. His aggression definitely does not carry over to the river. I've replayed a bunch of his hands and see him consistently missing value bets on the river, even after being the last aggressor on the turn. I almost get the feeling that his game plan is to get to the showdown at all costs, employing aggression liberally, but to give up on the river if the situation is unclear.

I think you're right here. I've seen him sometimes miss bets where I wouldn't have with middle or bottom pair or a small pp in situations where he's likely ahead and will probably get called by A-high, BUT he's not missing a ton of very clear value bets or anything like that. What I meant is he'll often bet in spots where a bet serves no readily apparent purpose, and as others have pointed out in previous threads, he'll call when his hand has basically no chance of ever being good.

[/ QUOTE ]

i have seen some of his stats posted before but i can't seems to find his % of showdowns won stat. is it above 50%?

My computer with my big database is all [censored] up, but in the past few weeks I have 1600 hands with DERB (just about 50/50 between 30 and 50 games).

Went to showdown: 40.52%
Won $ at showdown: 50.29%

These numbers probably don't mean much given that sample size though.

Hi Everyone:

From HPFAP page 1:

[ QUOTE ]
The "winning approach" we provide is a tight but aggressive one. It is not a "fast" approach, which some experts use to win slightly more money.

[/ QUOTE ]

This is followed by a footnote which says:

[ QUOTE ]
Some experts deliberately play a few extra hands, and then use their superior playing skills to catch up. They still lose money on these additional hands, but these hands allow them to make a little more on their legitimate hands due to the additional deception that they create.

[/ QUOTE ]

Best wishes,
Mason

We are talking about something close to twice as many hands, suprisingly enough, HFAP may not be all encompassing.

Few extra hands ? Is 10 more hands per 100 hands a few in full ring ? That seems a lot to me full ring. This guy has shorthanded stats in a full ring game. That's a huge difference imo...
