I wander how he actually does feel about this, I'd like to know he wouldn't actually care like you think he might, Lori, before I shell out $50, which as a multi-tabler, I might regrettingly have to.

Pat is far more easy going than I am. I would guess he won't care, but if I were going to buy some software that relied on someone else's work, I think there would be no harm in firing off an email just to check.

Where'd you hear this?

[/ QUOTE ]

It's mentioned on the PV forums, of all places.

[/ QUOTE ]

That was the first place I've checked, but apparently I'm blind. Care to point me to the thread?

*goes back to searching PV forums again*

Edit: Never mind, found the post.

Testing will be done behind the scenes with a hand picked group of people; there will be no more public betas once release occurs.
- There will be a trial version that has full functionality for a thus far undetermined period of time.
- There will be a login/password to PlayerView once you've purchased a license, but it'll be stored and you won't be bothered to enter it every time you start PlayerView. This is mostly so that I won't have to limit functionality on the trial version. (I've thought for a long time about this and it is really the best solution)
- Those who have donated any amount of money previous to this announcement will be given a free copy of PlayerView.

I doubt Pat would advertise on PV webisite if he didn't approve of the project.

That would seem logical.

This type of thing happens all the time with member-developed applications.

Ever heard of McAfee?

Ok, that aside...

Yes, PV is very buggy. I haven't obviously seen the released pay-version, but if it is anywhere near as buggy as the last free version, there will be a number of unhappy people. Personally, I would not purchase the application in the current form I have used.

The obvious solution is a free alternative.

I haven't played with Gametime + yet, but it appears the time has come.

If that ever goes to a pay release, well...we'll just need to get one of you brainiacs off your asses to write us a new free version. I don't code, but I've seen enough to know that it doesn't take an act of god to display stats from a database as an overlay on the screen...One of you will figure it out...I have confidence in you...

As far as the "Will Pat get pissed" issue, it really doesn't matter. It is really no different then someone developing a plug-in for Photoshop or something. No biggy.

So get to crack'n somebody and write a new free version.

Reverse-engineering is your friend.

Sweet, I knew the $20 I sent them during beta was good for karma.

I doubt it's so much about figuring it out than it is to get paid for the hardwork and effort you put into a product. Not sure how many people would want to put time to make a similar product when you could pay $50 or use GT+.

There are a million college students on this server. It only takes one.

Besides, when you code, it becomes a hobby and this becomes fun.

Not everyone is out to make a buck. I'm sure Bison could have spruced (ok, that's just terrible spelling) up the hand-converter and made a buck or too, but did he?
