i think the check on the flop is fine, although leading at the flop to quickly gauge the strength of the villain's hand isn't such a bad play either. i'd prefer checking simply to keep the pot small while out of position.
after he checked behind on the flop, i make a probe bet on the turn after picking up the gutshot straight draw. if he's got a hand he'll let me know right there. after checking twice, you're basically saying you're done with on the hand and inviting the bet on the turn. calling the turn would be quite fish-y, especially vs. a player who appears to be relatively tight. pot is still small - no need to go nuts. |
