El D. I have had them all. I have found none better then Carne on the UWS up in my hood.

edit: this restaurant style burger; not fast food. I want one really bad.

The burger at DB Bistro Modern[e] is TIGHT. But it's not a classic burger, so if you want the best burger in the classic American tradition, this isn't the place.

Time Out New York, New York Magazine and all those places have a "Best Burger" issue every so often, I could see if I could dig an old one up if you're interested.

I wouldn't dismiss those out of hand. They have some good ideas, and if nothing else, gives you a place to try and then decide for yourself. But I hear ya. Try the DB one.
