I am in the SB with 99

Four people limp, and i call, BB checks

Flop is 2 5 7 rainbow

I check, it gets cheked around to the button, who bets, I raise, all fold, button calls

Turn is a J, button checks, i bet, he calls

River is a K, the button bets, I...? (there are 8BB in the pot)

i called. correct?

I'm sure he means he checked and button bet. After doing that hero is obviously calling. Without a reason to check to the button that wasn't provided (like button will always bet on the river if checked to), we should definitely be betting this river again.
