Default Help a noob with some advice

Hello folks.

First time post and I was hoping to impose upon your good natures for some advice.

Currently I'm 4 tabling at PP 3/6 (please keep the flames to a minimum ). After about 20k hands I have a healthy 2.9BB/100 and consider myself to be a competent player. My short term goal is to change that description to 'a good player'...

I'm looking to move up to at least the 15/30 in a reasonable time frame and so I'm deciding on my game plan now. Hence I need some advice on the best path to take.

I've heard the 5/10 and 10/20 full tables are rock gardens and not a lot of fun, whereas the 15/30 is a lot looser but conversely more aggressive.

Do you think its best to:

<ul type="square">[*]Grind through the mid levels via the full tables[*]Try the 6 max route[*]Build the BR to go straight to the 15 games[*]Jump up now. The water is fine and we want your money...
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Change that to long-term.

3/6 -&gt; 5/10 6max -&gt; 10/20 6max -&gt; 15/30

I wouldnt get excited about 2.9BB/100 at 3/6 over 20k hands this means very little.

Nah long-term is to be a very good player. Need to be aggressive with your goals too!

Fantastic. Thanks for that. I suppose the 6max route requires me to buckle in for the variance roller-coaster?

I understand what your getting at here. I think if I was to suggest that this makes me a 'good player' or that I was 'killing the 3/6 game' I would be setting myself up for a very nasty shock and some biaatch-slapping.

At this stage I taking this to mean that I can win at this level - nothing more. Is even this too bold an assumption?

20k hands = a small sample size it does not mean you are crushing that game.

3/6 is still the kiddie pool.

The 6max route is the best one because it forces you to learn how to focus on aggression as well as blind stealing and defense. You are also forced to play many more difficult/marginal situations.

The games also involve many more HU pots much like 15/30.

1. # Grind through the mid levels via the full tables
2. # Try the 6 max route
3. # Build the BR to go straight to the 15 games
4. # Jump up now. The water is fine and we want your money...

My preference, #2 while working on #3. There are many other sites out side the party poker realm. Heck, I don't even play party.

Welcome to the boards and GL.

Several posters have states that the 5-10 6 max is a good training ground for the 15-30.

I don't have a whole lot of hands above 5/10, but FWIW I've found the 10/20 9max tables to be pretty juicy. Not as good as the 6max, but if variance is a worry (and I assume it will be as you work your way up), 9max might not be such a bad route to take.

5/10 full isn't really a rock garden, either, but the 6max tables are generally easy money.

6 max is definetly the way to go if you want to become a better player, and the party 5/10 is a good place to start and then go to the 10/20...
