Re: Stupidity and lunacy defeated in Dover, Pennsylvania...
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] The current debate for ID is aimed at introducing ID into the biology class, where it certainly does not belong. [/ QUOTE ] The local school board should decide wether it belongs or not. They should be able to make that decision without being in fear of the courts. Stu [/ QUOTE ] The school board should not have total power overthe curriculum of their school, thats how segregation lastedso long in this country. That said, the school board in Dover was voted out in a democratic process, the courts were not involved. Basically the people saw they had elected abunch of crazies, and then they voted them out. Simple, the people win and right wing crazies are stuck having to preach to only those who want to listen. |

[/ QUOTE ] I don' have a problem if the newly elected school board decides the statement is in appropriate for a 9th grade biology class. You're wrong about the courts being involved. There is a case pending in Dover and a decision is expected early 2006. I'd probably have a problem if the court ruled against the old school board(I would have to read the decision before making a final judgement). Stu |

Re: Stupidity and lunacy defeated in Dover, Pennsylvania...

[ QUOTE ] Sure you can. Just not in the context of your 9th grade biology teacher telling you that this theory with no scientific evidence to support it is an alternative to evolution.... You want to learn about ID, your parents can teach you. Or, as has already been discussed, you can take a religion or philosophy class. But it certainly does not belong in biology. [/ QUOTE ] So based upon what you just wrote your probably wouldn't have a problem with what was taught about ID in the Dover area. Here it is in all it glory. Intelligent design is an explanation of the origin of life that differs from Darwin's view. The reference book, 'Of Pandas and People,' is available for students who might be interested in gaining an understanding of what intelligent design actually involves. I'm sure they are a lot more detailed in thier explaination of evolution. When it came to ID all they did was mention that it existed and left it up to the students to explore. If even this statement is too offensive, why then would you believe that a discussion about a god setting in motion the gears of evolution would be permitted. Stu [/ QUOTE ] I know that it was just a statement, I do read the news. However, it was the fact that the statement was to be given in Biology Class, during a discussion of evolution that is the problem. |

Stu [/ QUOTE ] Haha, well in this case, it wasn't the courts that made the decision, it was the people of Dover, who of course, voted them all out of office. Hurray for Democracy! |

Damn! Damn! DAMN!
[ QUOTE ]
Nice to see that people who should be classified as clinically insane are no longer running their school board. Dover, Pennsylvania, school board booted out in elections [/ QUOTE ] And here I was hoping for a nation-wide rush of school education boards all over America to embrace and promote Intelligent Design classes! If for no other reason, because laughter is therapeutic and adds years to our life expectation. ...Come on, America, try harder ! |
