Default Potowonami

I'm going to be in SE WI from Wednesday through Sunday. I intend to hit Potowonami (sp?) either Thursday or Friday, and play 10/20 or 20/40. Any tips on when to get there/when the games are the best?

Bob

I've only been once, recently. I wrote a review of it on the pokerwikki page AKQJ10 contributes to. I've lost my link to the site, or I'd give it to you, but you should be able to find a link by searching the archives. My review was pretty thorough; that's why I mention it.

I went on a Friday night--got there about 8ish to avoid a wait, but there really wasn't much of a wait for any table all night (except the no limit hold'em table--30-45 minutes).

There's some construction to the roads, but you can still find the signs with their directions. Check out their site: potawatomi for directions.

I stayed till about 1am. Around 11:30pm what I assumed were fish (young guns in cowboy hats--in Wisconsin! ) started arriving. I wish I would have stayed, but my partner had cashed out.

You will find a phone number on the site to call to see what games are playing and about the wait, etc.

I was there about a month ago on a thursday afternoon and the wait was over an hour for a 2-4 game, which was a kill game when the same player won two pots in a row.

From what it looked like, you can call in up to an hour in advance. I am not 100% sure of the details on that but I would think if you called them they would be able to give you more details on that.

If you sign up for their players club card (Firekeepers card or something like that) they will keep track of your time and they will also give you a beeper and beep you when it is time for you to be seated if there is a wait. That was nice because that let us wonder around for awhile and play down in the casino while we were waiting.

If you are in the Milwaukee area and want a really good special treat visit Leon's Custard stand for a Hot Fudge Sunday. Best custard anywhere is at Leon's. If I remember correctly it is right by 27th St and Oaklahoma Ave.

Oh Ya!
They do not allow cell phone anywhere in the casino!!!!
They are like crazy phone Nazi's. So either leave your cell phone in the car or make sure and hide it and only use it in a bathroom stall or go out to the parking garage. Complete pain in the ass. They almost took my phone and we were using it nowhere near the casino or Poker room. I also saw several other people have their phones confiscated and taken to the security desk!

Potawatomi usually has long wait lists. The size of the room, is evidence the owners care nothing about poker players. Mostly, the lists are long and the poker room is small and cramped. I'm not crazy about the poor "MIDWEST ATTITUDE" of the poker staff. It's a kind of nastiness, you will also find in Minnesota (Canterbury), Illinois (Hollywood), and Indiana (Resorts / old Harrah's), Indiana (Trump) and Indiana (Ceasars, downstate). Strange as it may sound, you will enjoy Tunica Mississippi more than any poker experience, you will have in the aforementioned "holes". Atlantic City (Taj) is cool. Foxwoods is cool. And of course, Nevada and California are tops. Later.

Huh? I play at Canterbury a lot, and think the room is very well run and have yet to run into any "nastiness".

You won't be singing the same tune, when you start beating the games regularly.
