Garland, out of curiosity, how would you play JJ here if you were Villain? I assume bet the pot and hope AK or a pocket pair/suited connectors missed?

If I were villian? Yeah with JJ, I'd lead 1/2 to 2/3 the pot and be done with it if hero calls or raises. On an arid board, there isn't much else to call on other than a set or a Q. There are better spots to play big pots than against good tight players.

Only problem is when you run into a situation like this. If stoxtrader had QQ in this hand, he would have been ahead of turnipmonster but lost the pot. I agree with you that, of course, I normally lead at the pot after I have raised. But against tricky opponents, you will get called and won't know where you are. Maybe they have a lower pocket pair and thought you missed the flop? Maybe they have an overpair? Maybe they have nothing? I readily agree that playing the flop after I raise is one of my many weaknesses that I am trying to work on so your thoughts here are greatly appreciated.

Against a tight player I would give it up most of the time

So would I, but I'm trying to figure out if that is the right way to play it because a good player (even a tight one - tight does not equal weak) would be able to take the pot away from me there. It seems like a very similar situation to the one in the thread that I linked to, right? And in that case, it was played the way you are suggesting, and it could have easily been taken away.

I hate showing weakness but I also hate being trapped or pissing money away on a 2 outer

The QQ is different in that the Ace hit the Board and you were reraised with your jacks preflop so I don't think it is all that similar

Going back to my hand I didnt see any value in rasing him- if he comes over the top I can fold but I just wasted 80 bucks- but if he smooth calls I'm really in toruble.

In your hand
A) I would fold preflop
B) I would check the flop
C) I would fold to the check/raise

I am quite interested, however, in what hands would make sense for villain to play the way that he did, given that you are going to play the way that you are (which I agree is a decent way to play and a way that a lot of good players are likely to play).

If he had aces why checkraise, no scare card can come?
He wouldnt play QQ like that on that board. But with KK he pobly figures that I'm a tight player and either have a PP or high ace- why just call and let an ace hit?
