Bet more on the turn.

You are probably better off folding this preflop.

I would have folded pre-flop probably. You're not in good position for low pairs. But if I had stayed with it I would have bet ~450 on the turn probably. That probably would have failed anyways because it seems this guy won't let go of his AK anyways.

I don't think that calling off 20% of you stack pre-flop is good - I'd either push or fold.

On the flop, the pot is pretty big relative to your stack, so I'd just bet and hope for a call. Unless you know your opponent will bet, then maybe it's ok to check.

Given that you didn't bet on the flop a scary card (or a card that will give him a pair) hits on the turn, I would just push it.

In general, do I want to play these mid pairs (<10's) only in mid-late position? And only limp them from EP?

I think folding this pre-flop is weak tight. First of all, the odds you are getting (200 into 450) are better than 2-1. Good enough to see a flop I think. (If you're smelling weakness you could push PF too. He has 1000 left and might lay it down.)

I don't think the check is necessarily bad at all but perhaps you could also put out a probe on the flop of around 200 looking to get raised by JJ-AA, 99, 77, 55, AT, etc.

Now back to your hand. Your turn bet is too low. I would have thrown in about 400. That board is starting to scare me.

I check the river to induce a bluff. If he has you, he has you, but you're not laying down a set of sixes vs. a short stack.

I disagree.
66 is around 60/40 against a random hand I believe. Not only that but a) he has position on you and b) he raised and signaled strength
This is definitely going to mean that you're getting worse odds that 2:1 against villain's probable holdings. Not only that but if you don't get your set, villain will push you off your cards on the flop every time.

fold preflop and save your cash. I would only play this hand if i were in Late-Middle/Late position and I could limp in.

Where do we start?

a) you shouldn't have seen a flop here.
b) you hit your set then don't bet it.
c) on the turn you bet 1/3 of the pot
d) you bet the river when all you need is a 9 to have a straight. you should have checked hoping for free s/d

Well, first, calling preflop really, really sucked, unless you think CO is loose, and will fold to a stop and go or something. I think folding here is good, though I'd happily shove back with Tens.

Checking flop is ok against an aggressive opponent, but for god's sake, lead turn for more than a minbet. There's t650 floating out there. You should really take it down by shoving. Lot of lousy rivers.

I wouldn't limp here either.
