Default Choose a car

2004 Altima, 4-cylinder, 24k miles - $15k
2005 Infiniti G35, 6-cylinder, 16k miles - $26k

Keep in mind the user has no idea what to do with the extra performance in the G35.

Car's not for me.

Gas prices are a small concern. Total cost for the car is a larger concern. The G35 won't at all put this purchaser in the poorhouse, but it will be a noticable change in general lifestyle habits. The Altima will be a non-event. It is worth noting that the purchaser definitely prefers the looks and styling of the G35. I'm hard pressed to disagree on that point.

G-35, eveyone loves it, it will be much more fun to drive, even if you don't know anything about cars. plus, this is the us, we drive everywhere, and spending that much of you time in your car it is worth the investment to get something you will like and be proud of.

I don't understand how this can be true

and yet they only have these 2 options. There has to be a more appropriate car than one that is too much power, or one that is visually underwhelming.

G35 is loaded standard (i think) with a lot of very good standard features for luxury, performace (engine, suspension, braking), and safety. it also looks pretty good and has a good name value. it definetly pick that, but clearly you shouldn't really take advice on buyin a car from random people on the internet too seriously. obviously, the final decision is yours and should be mostly all made by you

The purchaser also had a 2001 Lexus ES300 (35k miles) for $20,500 that missed the final cut, as well as a 2003 Acura TL-S (36k miles) for $23,000 that missed the cut. It's come down to an "all or nothing" point - super economical (that the purchaser does still like) or the top choice (also the most expensive).

The Altima.

I love my Altima. I don't care if its not a cool car---if the purchaser will notice the 11k, and they aren't planning to race, than sacrificing "looks" for 11k is a reasonable choice.

That said, I'm sure other people can find better cars for the money, but for the choices, I vote Altima.

Anecdotal evidence: my brothers last Altima, 290k miles, original engine.
