Default The most frustraing hand tonight.

I flop a big straight and I think I played it right. He picked up the boat on the river. How could I or should I have played this differently?

On the flop, you have the nuts and it is capped. Great.
On the turn, you have the nuts and you call a 3-bet. Bad.

Bet the turn.
Depending on how scared I was playing that day, I would bet and call or check and call the river.

Cap the turn, you have the nuts. And bet the river, if he raises I'd call down but woudn't 3bet. This board and action screams full house.

So the only real mistake I made was not reraising on the turn? You're right, I got coldfeet. I don't know why, I figured him for at best trip K. Maybe one more bet would have made him release his hand.

Even if you figured him for trip kings, you still have to cap the turn. You have the stone cold nuts man! You want anything but for him to release his hand unless he has a set (but he ain't laying that down any time soon). You cap to make more of his money your money.

You're miles ahead of a set here. Did you know you had the nuts? Did you think about what having the nuts means in terms of pot equity?

Yeah I knew I had the nuts as soon as it flopped. I don't really know why I slowed down on the turn. Inexperience?

Looks perfect except for the disturbing lack of a turn cap when you have the nuts (I guess it's not the *absolute* nuts because AJ spades is a little better, but so what).

When the board pairs up, I think the immediate check-call on the river is better than betting out and calling a raise. He has a boat or you split the pot. What else could he be betting like that on? I guess I've been surprised before.

Yes, but AJ of spades is freerolling on him.

Still, it's a technical point only -- no reason for not capping the turn.
