Default Ethical question/ how to beat a \"beginner\"

I'm a semi-serious player-- I started a year ago and since have made several successful trips to various casinos (under age though) but most of my playing comes at school, with the same 5-8 guys every time, we are all pretty similar in skill except a few who are new to the game. This is my first post on 2 + 2

A few weeks ago I was playing and looked down at a K with a moderate kicker-- nothing too special. I was on the BB and checked after all but 1 limped in.
Imagine my surprise when the flop came KKK, giving me the absolute nuts. I checked, opponent checked, turn came.
We both checked again. River came same as the turn, giving the board a full house, which I of course beat with my 4K's.
As soon as the player checked to me i moved all in.
The problem is, the player i was against is somewhat inexperienced, and asked me why i was going all in. I explained that there was a full house on the board, and, i implied that if we both had the full house on the board we would split the pot if he called, and said that "i might just be trying to steal the blinds", encouraging him to call. I didn't specifically tell him to call, but I implied that it would lead to a split pot.
Was this wrong? people watching were split both ways. As it was he called and I flipped my K, showing him i had "tricked him" and won a monster pot. he was a good sport, and I fet justified because table talk is a form of bluffing-- even thought he was a beginner, i felt he should have known better if you knew the guy. But was this against the "spirit of the game?"
thoughts and advice are greatly appreciated.

1) It was wrong.
2) What happened to all the limpers in the hand.
3) How could it be a "monster pot" if all you got were the limps and your victim's call?

1. Why was it wrong
2. the entire hand was just the two of us from the start
3. I doubled up-- i guess technically it may not have been a "monster" but I won a nice amount from it.

that's crazy. i'm annoyed you think this is technically ok and may be right about it.
damnit this incident should be a lesson to you to enforce a 'one player to a hand' rule.

unfortunately, there is no asking for advice during a hand. he can call or fold and then ask about it later.

but since you started talking, well, i dunno. you very nearly lied about your hand but i guess you didn't.. table talk is not "a form of bluffing", sure its a tool, but you advised him to call you - good god man. would you actually have called if the situation was reversed?

stunts like this are NOT the best way to make money from your regular crew wilcs.

Default How to beat a \"beginner\"?

How to beat a beginner? Simple. Tell her its a schoolday tomorrow and time for bed and she has to go all in, everytime, from now on. I always seem to get the best of it in this situation. Maybe I'm just running well, but I'm 5 for 5 so far. Thoughts?

Ugh - that kind of play reminds me of a guy who used to play in our home game. He was probably a winning player overall, but not nearly as good as he thought he was. Nice guy otherwise, but he never failed to try any "sleazy" (IMHO) move he could, often involving deliberately misleading table talk. Naturally, these things (like your comment) usually only work on inexperienced players, but they were annonying to everyone else as well. Not only would it make the newbie feel bad/stupid/misled/etc. but it would put a damper on the game as well. My belief is that if you're a winning player, you should be able to win just as much or even more by simply playing smart and being nice at the table.

Did the guy come back next week?

Bring on the flames (but note that I'm talking about low stakes home games ).

to clear things up...i only said anything because he asked, i did mention that if i had the 4th king i would win (but i tried to make it sound like i didn't), and it was a "low stakes home game" like yo ujust mentioned. he has come back numerous times and the "event" didn't really effect anything in the long run.

The fact that you are posting this message screams of feeling guilty for what you did. An experience player would have folded realizing that he wasn't getting pot odds to call (if I read your betting action correctly). Just stinks and you are lucky to have him return. IMHO

yeah, it was wrong. You should have either said the truth or you should have said you can't tell him what to do.
