As you move up in limits dealing accurate, mistake free poker becomes far more important than "being friendly."

Please list for me the dealing mistakes you've seen Bubbles make besides, apparently, being too nice. He's dealt thousands of hands to me and I don't think he's ever exposed one of my cards, screwed up the action or lost his place in the game. Some [censored] telling somebody to "shut the [censored] up and deal" doesn't reflect poorly on the dealer; it reflects poorly on the prick who said it.

When dealing a higher limit game the dealer can become a distraction. Bubbles is a great guy. When a dealer is talking in the box when the players don't want him to THAT is a mistake. They may have 10-20 and up there now, back then they didn't. When players that don't normally play in a room (but they play higher limits) they expect the dealer to concentrate on dealing the game. Bubbles is techincally sound excpet he misses the part about avoiding extraneous conversation in the box.

Have you ever been to a doctor or dentist and they are having a conversation with the nurse or assistnat while your blood pressure etc is being taken? They are professionals and know what they are doing, but it gives the appearance of considering what they are doing right now as being unimportant. When the dealer is busy making the hotel guests less intimidated (which is fine or even encouraged in a smaller game) they are giving the appearance of not following the action and paying attention to the action on the table.

I wish Mason still had his essay on talking dealers on here, it relly is the best work I have seen on this issue.

edit to add: While there is never a reason to swear at the dealer anytime the dealer has to be told to be quiet that is a failure on both the part of the dealer and the management of the room. In defense of the Excaliber they do (or did) have a sign outside the room advising that they spread kitchen table poker (I don't know what the opposite of this is, serios poker, casino poker?) I always liked that sign for getting hotel guests into games, but maybe there mistake was agreeing to spread a 10-20 game (this was back when 10-20 was a somewhat serious limit).

Yea, and he's on my list of Best F#@&!%$ Dealers Who ever Walked the Planet Earth. #1 in my book.

I have played at Excaliber less than 10 times in my life and none since 2001, so I will defer to you on this. Bubbles has dealt to me maybe 3 times; the main thing I remeber about him is that he talks the entire time. I have had two really bad experiences there (but these were many years ago and I am sure the offenders are no longer there). THe first one was back when they played 11 handed there, thas was a coupel playing their hand together (I had no complaint about more than one player per hand), I did have a problem with them both sitting at the table forcing us to sit 12 handed and being able to sit comfortably at the table, I complained to the floor and the flor blew me off and did nothing. ANother problem I has a lady friend with me and she was playing. On the river she bet and the dealer said something along the lines of "looks like she made the flush" the picks up the pot and asks the dealer to not comment on the hands and he says "we do that all the time" so she complain to the floro and the floor says "you may be more comfortable at the Mirage." For the record Bubbles was not involved in either of these, but what is someone to think when another dealer comes in and talks non-stop in this room? That is the main reason I rarely palyed there (I only played there when I had to be down there for somethign or someoen was visiting form out of town that wanted to play poker in a very small game).
