How the hand went.
I raised in first position with QQ. Player called with 89diamonds. Flop QJT rainbow with the Jack of Diamonds. I bet 500 He raised to 2000. Turn 10 diamonds. I checked he bet 1000. I raised it to either 3000 or 4000. Can't remember. The river 7 diamonds for a straight flush. I bet 3000 and he called the rest of his chips.

I felt like the air got sucked out of me. I have never lost top full to a straight flush. It happens in poker but it's very hard to get a beat like that in the biggest tournament of the year. Everybody has very high hopes for this tournament. I think there will be about 5500 players who will want to rebuy.

Jen,

that's a pretty shocking hand. the cardplayer description had your opponent making the straight flush on the turn when you filled up. if that's the case, i dont know how all the money doesnt wind up going in by then. your decription certainly makes much more sense.

better luck next year.

Jennifer, I walked past you near the registration desk. I thought about giving you the "big fan" hello but you looked so down. Now I know why. Better luck next year.

In an optimistic world I guess you could say it's a good thing it happened when it did, and not on Monday afternoon.

That sucks.

From Paul Phillips' latest Slate article...this kind of stuff makes me sick:

[ QUOTE ]
One of my good friends is out of the tournament already. The day isn't three hours old when I run into a devastated Jennifer Harman-Traniello. She had moved all-in on the river with queens full, a powerhouse hand that could be beaten on that particular board only by an unlikely four of a kind or an even more improbable straight flush. As her opponent called, he said, "Looks like it's an early day for me, I guess I'll go do some sightseeing." And then he rolled over his unbeatable straight flush. There are few players I like as much as Jennifer. I'm glad I wasn't at that table, or I might have gotten myself another lifetime ban.

[/ QUOTE ]
You just know he slow-rolled for the cameras, since they were at the TV table. What an ass.
