But at least with an AI, (no matter how bad it is) at least it's trying to play half decent poker???

Surely someone will learn more about poker by playing computer games than play money tables???

I think you're overestimating the quality of AI on these games.

What about having them play in freeroll tournaments? Usually you get those first couple hands where people just go all-in till they bust out, but after that people play semi-seriously.

A site like PokerPages allows you to win "bonus points" off freeroll tournaments and you can then play in games that use them like cash (similar to the points games on UB). People play a bit more seriously since they earned their points.

The AI sucks for the most part. I have poker academy as well, but I like to play seriously on that since I use it to tweak my game and experiement some as well.

I got the Poker Academy Pro (there's also a $17 regular game version out). I've been very pleased. I've found other software poker games to be too tight. Basically if you just bet out on the flop, you'll win. If anything, Poker Academy will play too loose. That's not bad, but raising and UTG raiser with junk is not good--then when the UTG goes all-in, the player will call, with say, T-9offsuit. Crazy. I'm used to folding pocket jacks on the flop when its raised and re-raised. But here, you shouldnt do that since one player is raising with inadequate values. Plus if you get the pro version you get the heads up bots and they really are pretty good and it's a struggle to get the better of them. I think stacked will use the same AI modeling but with a lot more bells & whistles which sound like fun....
