Ya, I think perhaps the biggest mistake I made in this hand is giving maniac too wide of a hand range. Given the fact that he has not 3-bet preflop frequently, I should not be so quick to conclude that he doesn't hold a strong hand here that he's willing to call me with.

My overall conclusion from people's responses is that this is a -EV play. I got lucky that both folded--I definitely didn't have as much fold equity against the maniac as I thought during the hand. Due to this lack of FE this play is certainly -EV.

Trying to get a maniac to fold is a great way to go broke. And losing 600 bucks for metagame purposes is pointless b/c a) there are better spots to try to screw w/ my image and b)maniacs pretty much play every opponent as if he is the same guy. In other words, making this play is not going to change how this guy plays against me; he has one gear.
