blatant disregard (disrespect?) for money

hey guys,

so i see posts on here all the time where people say stuff like "man you have to have the biggest sack ever to pull off this bluff" or "geez your testicles must be boulders" or "[insert other analogy related male genitalia to large round objects being necessary to make a play]." most of these comments i've noticed come from weaker (or just newer) players... basically, i've never seen a solid known regular make a comment like that.

but when i'm playing... i push all in all the time. i mean granted i play in games that i'm completely overrolled for, and i do it on purpose, so losing a stack or two doesn't concern me at all... but i think i have just some sort of lack of respect for money. it really isn't even money, just some number on the internet that changes daily floating around in "cyberspace." so if i think he's full of sh*t, and i think it's a +EV play, i'm pushing my chips in the pot as fast as i can. i mean, that's more fun than waiting aroud for the nuts (even if you are masturbating/porn shopping while doing so).

but i also am frivolous now outside in my real life. like when i want something, i buy it. i don't buy many things for myself and i haven't spent much poker money but i never concern myself with costs, especially of eating/drinking out... if something i bought from a store doesnt work i'll be damned if i'm going to go all the way back there for 30 bucks... you get my drift.

i'm curious to see your thoughts on this matter, how many feel similarly. and do you think it is possible to have a disconnect between poker life and real life where you can have a blatant disregard/disrepect for money online while you are playing but still be smart about it in real life?

but that doesnt mean I think what you are doing is not smart. Your time is now more valuable when measured by opportunity cost, so proceed accordingly.

I would advise against being frivolous for the sake of being frivolous, as I'd imagine it is a bad habit to get into, unless you want to end up like Antonio.

Having said that, do enjoy your money, but put some away for a rainy day as well. Like stox said, sometimes I will splash out(!!) on a bus journey and recover that money with the extra minutes I've saved [img]/images/graemlins/wink.gif[/img]

I behave exactly as you do, duck. If I want something (or even if I just kinda want it) then I buy it. Period. Sometimes I'll go the mall just to LOOK for something to buy after a good day or good run. Last weekend I blew over a grand on junk and it didn't even phase me.

This, for me, isn't a problem since I know after blowing through money I have to tighten up the spending for awhile. My problem is caring about money on the table when I am overolled for the limit I'm playing. As soon as I become overolled for a particular limit I tend to get bored since winning a couple buy ins only makes a dent in my bankroll. I'm getting better at coping but when boredom strikes evil things happen like bad play and moving up limits too soon.

**btw duck, were you playing on like 20 tables this morning? Every table I went to, there you were. I almost dropped down limits cuz you had a monopoly going. lol.**

The way you describe your "disrespect for money" at the table is the way all top players must regard money when playing poker. I think you need to ignore the fact that you just wagered a trip to the bahamas. In terms of real life, its good to spend your money, I mean you cant take it with you. Just dont be a moron like dropping 1k every night you go out to a club (well I guess ur a girl and they generally dont do this) or stupid shite like that and enjoy your wealth.
