Default A few big money hands that I\'m unsure about...

Went from chip leader to 11th place in a big MTT today. Was really upset about it, as I can't ever seem to make the final table. I'm talking roughly 100 MTTs over the year without a single final table appearence. Lots of cashes, just always blow up somewhere late. I'd like opinions on a few key hands that broke me.

PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em Tourney, Big Blind is t1600 (8 handed) converter

UTG (t7212)
UTG+1 (t8909)
MP1 (t13965)
MP2 (t21665)
CO (t21677)
Hero (t81397)
SB (t28410)
BB (t63430)

Preflop: Hero is Button with T[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], T[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img].
3 folds, MP2 raises to t21590, 1 fold, Hero calls t21590, 1 fold, BB calls t19990.

Flop: (t63695) 4[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], J[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 7[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (3 players)

BB bets t4800, Hero calls t4800.

Final Pot: t95695

Results in white below:
BB has Ks Kd (one pair, kings).
MP2 has Qh Th (high card, queen).
Hero has Td Ts (one pair, tens).
Outcome: BB wins t95695.

I was the chip leader for the whole tournament, MP2 was pushing like a madman, and I hadn't been in too many hands with BB up to that point. Can you find a fold anywhere in there?

UTG was 21% v$pip with 12% pfr so I thought I might have him dominated. Was I right to put him in? Should I have just called or put in a lesser raise?

Is 14,400 too little to risk 103,000 for with a hand like 10-10? Should I have made it a lesser raise and folded to a scary flop? I felt like I couldn't afford to do that at that point. I had also stolen the last pot pre-flop, so I figured any smallish raise I made probably wouldn't get the job done. The people at my table were more than willing to coldcall a 4XBB raise. Thoughts?

Oh also... AK can go to hell!

Default Re: A few big money hands that I\'m unsure about...

Hi,

Hand 1: I don't like the way you played this.

The call from you is marginal and the way you played the rest of the hand is very weak passive.

What do you put your opponent on here, with his small bets on Flop Turn and River? He isnt betting AK or AQ like this - he either has AJ, QQ, KK and possibly KJ IMO.

If I called preflop like you, I would probably chuck my cards away on the turn after his second small bet.

Either this, or I raise the flop to see where I am at.

I wouldn't ever call all the bets here.

Hand 2 and 3 are typical 50/50's that you either like gambling with or don't. Pretty standard. If you win them, you cruise to the final table, if you lose them, you are out earlier - end of story.

If you want to make final tables more regularly with less chips, avoid 50/50. If you want to make final tables with big chips, keep trying with 50/50 and eventually you will hit one at the right time.

Cheers,

Jon
