We check because betting or raising is incorrect, and folding is too (although in this example, folding is clearly the right move). Therefore, we'd rather not call, but the other options are more incorrect.

In SSHE, it is assumed that players are all loose. So, anyone limping with a wide range of hands will be willing to put in another bet. We shouldn't assume automatically that people are on a flush draw, but we certainly can't ignore it totally either. Out overcards lose value because we may be reverse dominated, likely by A4, A8, A6, and maybe even K8. Overcards are discounted for these reasons, since it is more likely that playing 1/2 limit you will play against loose opponents rather than thinking, tight opponents.

Your assumptions are correct, but they only apply when up against a group of competent players.

Note: I am new and I'd greatly appreciate it if anyone corrected me on my thinking.
