Donovan is her mother's middle name, her grandmother's maiden name, and her greatgrandfather's last name. He had only daughters, so this is how his name gets passed on.
She has gotten one Eagles McNabb jersey from my brother.

Dawson. Meh. We could have done better. We could have done worse, too.

Caldie is my grandmother's maiden name.

I have a first name I don't use because my family followed some tradition. I think the best gift I can give my children is not to thrust that same burden upon them

That said, I think Donovan is a pretty name for a girl, if you could remove all of the other context from it .

Ditto - Maiden name-first name thing. I gave my son a fine name but he now insists his name is "Matchbox to the Rescue". We've told him he can legally change it when he's 18. Until then we're sticking with his given name.

We call her 'D' sometimes, so she can go that route if she wants.

A couple of prominent male names in my family were Theron and Alois. We had the sense not to stick our boy with one of those.

You might put undue pressure on her if she doesn't "measure up".

So instead of a hot chicks thread, here's a thread to post your cute kid pictures.

[/ QUOTE ]

So far it's pretty much both.
