Ok I have project and need to know how to do the math on this: (posted in OOT for fast answer)

If revenue for company X rose 37.5% in 2000 to 210 million what was the revenue in 1999, and how do you come up with this number?

X + .375X = 210

X = 210/1.375

Revenue rises 37.5% means revenue is multiplied by 1.375. So, to find the original revenue, divide 210 million by 1.375.

The way I learned to do these types of problems is make two equal fractions:

100 137.5
--- = ---
X 210,000,000

Where 'X' is 1999's revenue.

Then you simply cross multiply:

210,000,000 * 100 = 21,000,000,000

137.5X = 21,000,000,000

21,000,000,000/137.5

your answer is 1999's revenue was $152,727,272

Hope that helps
