Default Breath underwater without an air tank. -cool technology

http://www.isracast.com/tech_news/310505_tech.htm

An Israeli Inventor has developed a breathing apparatus that will allow breathing underwater without the assistance of oxygen tanks. This new invention will use the relatively small amounts of air that already exist in water to supply oxygen to both scuba divers and submarines. The invention has already captured the interest of most major diving manufacturers as well as the Israeli Navy.

I want one.

I prefer "Drunk card playing nerd with guns that jumps out of airplanes and breaks a lot of bones".

Clayton N, I really haven't watched TV in over 6 months and southpark is one thing I do miss. In short, I have no clue what that pic is supposed to mean.

Okay, here's a reader's digest summary:

Mr. Garrison is tired of being a man, so he gets a sex change. Kyle doesn't make the state junior basketball squad because all the team members are tall and black, while Kyle is short and Jewish. Kyle sees Garrison and hears that the doctor who performed the surgery on Garrison can turn Kyle into a black child.

Kyle's dad gets infuriated and says hell no, runs over to the doctor's office and threatens to kick his ass. Doctor says "Why, is that a Dolphin on your shirt?", he says yes, and the doctor convinces Kyle's dad to have a dolphin-plasty and he's cosmetically turned into a dolphin.

Of course, Garrison gets pissed when he realizes the surgery was only cosmetic and he can't have kids, but the doctor says he took what he removed from Garrison and put that in the knees of a short jewish boy and the dorsal fin of his father.

Kyle does awesome at the basketball game (since he's now tall and black), but his legs break in half. Again, cosmetic.

Sooooo, Garrison is now a woman on South Park. And that should explain the picture. Somewhat.

although it sounds really cool, it still looks pretty similar to current scuba tanks.

True, but size will shrink in time and will also become more efficient. This device is new but it still greatly increases the amount of time you can stay underwater. Using an air tank you will have to get a new tank every 40 minutes or so. Tanks are huge. Here you just need a new battery or a power cord.

Plus with 1 minute recharge batteries:

SOLID STATE BATTERIES

And even fuel cells

The technology could evolve to let you stay down there all day. When SCUBA diving, 40 minutes goes by very fast.

Obviously you don't dive very often or very deep. At 100 feet the amount of air in your tank is not the limiting factor. Nitrogen absorbtion is what you're really worried about on any dive > 30 feet (I assume we're talking recreational diving here). This won't do diddly for the amount of time most recreational divers can stay down.
