Default AQ on scary board

It's early in a session but I can see that the button plays any two cards and calls down with any piece of the board. UTG and BB haven't done much of anything yet -- just along for the ride so far.

Party Poker 1/2 Hold'em (6 max, 6 handed) converter

Preflop: Hero is SB with Q[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], A[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img].
UTG calls, 2 folds, Button calls, Hero raises, BB calls, UTG calls, Button calls.

Flop: (8 SB) K[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], J[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 9[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (4 players)
Hero...?

Do we like this flop or not?

We do not. Everyone's gonna have a reason to call this board even if they aren't loosies like Button, so we don't have enough to value-raise and we're likely not taking this down before the river UI. A bunch of our outs are very tainted and we're really vulnerable to redraws. I'm checking here and probably folding pending what the action is.

I don't like it. If you pair your cards, you're looking at best against str8, at worst, flush. Given your read of the button, he could easily have a [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] he's not laying down. You could probably bet here and fold the other two(given your pre-flop raise) I would probably give it a shot and lead out, see what happens. After that...

If you were ever going to dump a hand immediately after a PFR, this is the hand to dump.

If the board were monotone but ragged, I could see firing one bet out there on the flop in an effort to pick up the pot. There is no way in hell that will work with this board. Just give up and go on to the next hand.

Maybe a leak of mine. I generally like to bet out when I'm the pf raiser when a scary board flops. Not saying that I do it all the time, but hey, if it works (in this case)more that 12.5% of the time, it's worth it.....right????

Like I said, I use this play sometimes as well. I just doubt that it works that often on this particular board and these particular opponents.

I don't like this flop at all. Calling a bet on this flop is spewing. Obviusly a late position bet would be sound strategy in some situations, since hero is SB, this won't work. Check and fold.

hero is check/folding.

It's ok. These hands happen at times.
