Default Help me plan my Vegas trip

My wife and I are arriving Sat 8/20 in the morning, leaving Tues 8/23 in the morning. Staying @ the Flamingo. It's only my second time. 1st was 5-6 years ago, and I didn't play poker at the time. Wife's first time. I'm looking for advice in a few areas. I like to plan stuff out so I need to fill in a lot of holes. Tentative schedule:

Sat am/afternoon: Roam the strip, lunch, Mac King afternoon show at harrahs? Dinner?

Sun: Breakfast buffet at Bellagio? pool time, dinner/show = Rat Pack tribute @ greek isles? Downtown after show?

Mon: wide open

1) Comments on either of those shows? Recommended as great values on rec.vacations.las-vegas. Other ideas for activities? Not interested in any of the big shows. Not club people, but would love recommendations for lounges with good singers/bands. Piano lounge at Harrahs?

2) Places to eat - breakfast/lunch/dinner. Can be "fast food" or sit-down, but we aren't picky/fancy eaters. Doubt we'll eat more than one meal >$25 per person (excluding drinks). I haven't read much on lower-priced non-buffet places. Cheapovegas.com says the flamingo has a good prime rib place. Read somewhere the deli at TI is solid.

3) Poker - I have to fit this in whenever I can. A good portion of it may be all night Monday/Tuesday morning before we leave. Will there be any worthwhile games at this time or is it all dead? My plan is to hit as many rooms as I can for a couple hours each.

Any advice from the pros would be appreciated.

A bunch of friends and I are going to be in Vegas from the 16th to 21st. We probably won't be going to many shows, though. Probably focusing on games of skill and chance, and the intoxicants provided during their play.

If you want to meet up, gimme a PM.

Some thoughts

The deli at TI is the Carnegie Deli (I think) - word to the wise - SHARE A SANDWICH - they are unbelieveably massive - like, imagine how big you can possibly imagine a sandwich to be, then double it - that is how big they are - I saw someone order a club - it had what looked to be a full package of bacon in it.

If you want a GREAT meal and a good deal - though its $32 - I suggest Samba at The Mirage - its a Brazillian Steakhouse where they serve rodizio - which is basically where they come by with skewers of various kinds of meat and carve or serve them at your table - its all you can eat - plus you get salad, fried plantains, veggies, creamed spinach and black beans - and the meat is fantastic. IF you are a true carnivore, you CANNOT miss this.

The breakfast buffet at the Bellagio is fantastic. I might suggest you tell a slight fib and call ahead to let them know that you got married the night before - you may be able to go into the VIP line.

As for the poker, well, you'll have to ask someone else. I was just there last month and we stayed at The Mirage and I felt little need to go to any other poker rooms - I really liked it there. I have heard the Flamingo has a good room as well.

Well, I'm not a pro, but can hold my own and made $850 over three days recently playing the $1/$2 NL $100 max buy in at the Imperial Palace...especially you said you might have to play at night...the quality of the players seemed to deteriorate at the IP during the night hours. I'm sure I was running good but the IP is easy pickins'...plus it's one property from the Flamingo and you get $3/hour in comps...$5 hours = rib dinner at the Ribhouse.

The 100 max structure at the IP is lame. The monte Carlo is a good place for 1-2nl and 4-8

I will most likely will be in LV 20th-26th or so...Thinking on staying at Flamingo as well since the pool is nice during the day.Flamingo has lots of donkfest low limit poker that is very fun if drinking heavily late night is on your plans..(it is in mine haha).

Dont miss Paris breakfast buffet...
Bally's often has some nice jazz band playing in the lounge at end of their casino...there's crap tables nearby so you can ditch wifey there and roll the bones a bit if bored.

Often you can get 2 for 1 coupons for the show at the Rio (Scintas)...nice cheapo show worth watching. Ask at Rio desk for them during the week.

If I get confirmed that I'm there that week I'll pm you in case you want some 3am drunken poker.

One other option, if you are interested, is to go to look into one of the timeshare presentations. They are generally 2 hours and some of them give you a whole lot of free stuff. It may not be worth your time, but if you are trying to save $$$, some of the offers are pretty good.

thumbs down on this. go to a fogo de chao location instead, the service and selection at samba is vastly inferior.

Thanks for all the suggestions. That's the type of stuff I was looking for.

I'm 29 which is old for 2+2 but I wouldn't mind meeting up with somebody. PM me for those that will be in town and want to meet a 2+2er from MN. Doubtful I'll play anything higher than 4-8 or 1-2NL.

I found the service to be excellent.

I did not know there was a Fogo De Chao in Vegas - there isn't one listed on their website

http://www.fogodechao.com/locations.htm

No question, fogo de chao>>>>>>>Samba

However - if I remember from eating there in LA, the all you can eat is about $50 as opposed to $32 at Samba.
