Give him a few pointers and tell him to discuss a few hands with you.

If he doesn't bother asking again and as long as he isn't gambling away the family farm I wouldn't bother pestering him with poker advice.

I'd suggest sitting down with him for his first couple sessions. Sit behind him and watch him play for a few hours while giving out some basic pointers. Don't actually play his hands for him, instead give him feedback after the hand is over about how you would have played it differently.

I would recommend a good beginner book for him and send him to the micro-limit tables (I think Stars has a micro NL table if your friend isn't interested in Limit) so he can learn the basics with smaller risk than the $25 NL tables.
