Re: QTs is for mutts
[ QUOTE ]
hm...interesting...just the opposite for me. If I played QTs (and I just about always would), I would openraise. If I played 55 (which I would nearly always play live but only seldom online), then I would sometimes limp but usually raise). I agree that Qts is better than 55 in this spot. [/ QUOTE ] This is exactly how I would play QTs and 55 in that position. |

Re: QTs is for mutts
I would probably fold both hands, and sometimes limp with QTs if the table was loose-passive. If the table was extremely tight and passive, I'd raise with QTs and 55 sometimes.

Re: QTs is for mutts
If 4 people fold in front of you, you'd be 3 off the button, not 4. But regardless, with QTs I'd either raise or limp. 4 off the button, I'd be more inclined to limp, 3 off the button, I'd be a bit more inclined to raise. Depends on my table image at the time and the opponents yet to act. With 55, I either limp or fold, and usually fold unless I think almost everyone will just limp behind me. I'd only raise if I had a very strong table image.

Re: QTs is for mutts
Am I the only one that finds open-limping in MP completely unacceptable?
I'd raise the QTs as long it isn't one of those games where I'm pretty sure I'd get at least 1 probably 2 cold-calls behind me. 55 is almost always a fold unless the game is playing tight. |

Re: QTs is for mutts
I'm not that tight, and I would raise with pocket fives and limp with QTs.

Re: QTs is for mutts
im interested to see why astro would open limp here with q10 suited. Is it because your almost hoping somebody isolates you and your hand isnt defined at all?

Re: QTs is for mutts
With no specific reads I'd fold both hands. If i thought the players behind me viewed me as tight I'd raise both hands to try and pick up the blinds. But 90% of the time I'll fold and wait for a better opportunity

Re: QTs is for mutts
People frequently refer to the "Typical Party 15" game like its some homogenous event that plays similarly across all tables. They are not. Some are loose, some tight. Some are passive, others aggressive. Plus combinations of both. In fact, I'd go so far to say the there is no such thing as a "Typical Party 15 game".
Hopefully before a player posts or pays a blind, he spent a little time observing and has an idea of the preflop tempo and action? And if they practice solid table selection skills, they're quite aware of the table's play style long before sitting down. *IF* I will likely get some limps and not a raise behind me, a limp with QTs is ok here. If not, I'd dump it (so it frequently gets dumped on Party 15 games). I really don't want to be playing it heads up or 3-way, out of position, for 2 bets. 55 can be a raising hand in MP if the table and blinds are tight, and especially if the blinds are weak-tight (it does happen on party). But once again, I don't want to be limping with it if I'm likely to be facing a raise, and playing it out of position against 1-3 players for 2 bets preflop (unless MAYBE if they're going to go WAY too far with their hands postflop). But if the players behind me are seeing a lot of flops and not raising much, then maybe a limp is OK here. -Scott |
