Default Changes at the Fort (PHX AZ)

Well this will not be the best report, as I did not stay around long...

1) They are going be expanding the poker room. No details but the implication was that they would be expanding to the same size as CA. Dont know how they expect to fill the seats, guess they are counting on the new hotel...

2) The MTT has changed it's rebuy structure and levels for the first hour. Now the first hour goes like this; 25/50, 50/75, 75/150. The rebuys have also changed, so 600 first level, 800 second level, 1000 3rd level.

Another interesting thing happened too that I am very happy about! A dealer asked me if I would interested in "single table" tournaments. When I responded in the postive, he asked how high I wanted to play. Yes! Someone is thinking about this, and I haven't talked to the card room manager at all about this!

This is great news. Are they going to make the room look any nicer as part of the plan? When the room was over in the current steakhouse it was my favorite place to play, but now it feels like you are playing in a bingo hall (which you are).

Also, are they planning on trying to get some mid limit games going to compete with Casino AZ?

I didnt stay long to chat last night, had people to do.

Anyway, with the new electronic board they have been getting 6/12 and 8/16 running more often. The 2-150 game has been running pretty solid too.

Heck there were even four names on the 75/150 mix game list last night. Never seen that on a Saturday before.

I would hope they do the following...

1) Use the large tables for all tables. I am fed up with the cramped play, either 9 handed ring or 10 handed tournament. If I am not cramped by the 400# guy next to me, I am playing bumper cars with the guy behind me!

2) Get the camaras setup right so they can eliminate the big jackpot verus the small jackpot tables.

3) Get some decent chairs and rails. The whole room just looks and feels so shaby compared to CA.

4) Put in auto-shufullers! Enough of the new (or old) slow as a lame snail dealers!

When I asked one of the upper cardroom managers why they didn't have auto-shufflers he mentioned that they didn't want to rake too fast. They know they have a much smaller player base than CA. Maybe they'll get them if business picks up. They have spent money on the new sign-up system and the player tracking system on which comps and tourney bonus chips are based so I don't think it's the money they are worried about.

I live near The Fort and stop in occasionally. I like to play 8-16 to 20-40 and for that I've had to go to CA for a steady selection. I am hoping that FM can pick up some business because competition will make it better for players. The hotel may help and the cardroom manager, Mike Byrne, is a top notch guy.

I miss the Fort. Really, don't move away to Salt Lake City, no matter how much your job pays!
