I don't know about this but I have a credible source that he told the Norwegian prime minister (which is a priest)something along the lines that it was his religious conviction that it was the right thing to do (invade Iraq). The Norwegian prime minister told him that from a religious standpoint that he thought he was wrong. So either religion played a major part in his decision or he used it as a diplomatic tool when discussing with a very Christian man.
