Dear Robert Petty,

Thank you for contacting nwa.com Customer Service.

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is responsible for
security screening and has defined some specific guidelines for all
airlines to follow. One part of their security program involves
screening passengers through a random selection process. Due to these
regulations, it will be necessary for you to check in at an E-Service
Center or with a Northwest agent at the airport.

The selection process is mandated by the TSA. Please understand that
federal regulations prohibit airline representatives from sharing
specific information regarding security programs.

These safety precautions are in everyone's best interest, and in that
spirit, we sincerely appreciate your cooperation.

If you have further questions, please contact the TSA. For the most
expedient response, you may contact them through their website at
www.tsa.dot.gov

I am certain the information above will explain the reason you are not
able to check in online.

Thank you again for using nwa.com Customer Service. We appreciate the
opportunity to serve you, our customer.

Sincerely,

Toby Jensen

no big deal, so i have to check in with a person to get on my flight out to vegas --- get my ticket and check my bags, fly out there no prob

on the way back was a little tougher -- i tried to get my ticket from that computer again --- and it told me that i had ticket check at the counter, whatever --- the ladys hand was [censored] up and she had to dial the phone using a pencil -- after calling several times and talking to different people they finally gave me my ticket --- she said my name was on the no fly list ---- i would have just hated to be stranded out in vegas

ive only flew one other time and didnt have any problems -- not sure

cheers

this has happened to several people I know. Their process is assanine and is based on name only. So if you have a name like steve smith, and one person in the ENTIRE world named that did something bad, congratulations, you just made the no fly list. You can actually be hassled a lot more than you were. Some people aren't allowed on their initial flight, you have to practically get strip searched going through security, etc. etc. The process should be linked to drivers license #'s or something other than name only. I saw a news show about some 12 year old kid that was stranded at the airport for 3 days because of the list....i'm sure there are lot of 12 year old terrorists out there.

I'm on this too, at least for America West. As far as I can gather, it is on an airline by airline basis, and we're not on the "no fly" list, but rather something like a "select list" or some other BS. If you contact the TSA, you can fill out a profile, and they ask for (no joke) about 4 forms of ID, including birth certificate, voter registration card, and some other nonsense.

It's funny, because I have a really common name. But it's not funny, because it was really annoying to wait in the line and not be able to check in electronically. I haven't flown AW since I was stopped, so I don't know if filling out all that stuff did anything. good luck.

Wow, that's extremely stupid considering the TSA is a joke and has accomplished very little in the grand scheme of things.

I've been harassed by TSA after getting out of a plane as a PILOT. I guess that's enough to make me a suspicious person, since obviously they don't racial profile people of German descent. *rolls eyes*

I fly often with a buddy from work who is on the no fly list. His name is Mike Kelly. Gets hassled every time.
