Default AK in late position

Was this the right play?

PokerStars 0.25/0.50 Hold'em (9 handed) converter

Preflop: Hero is CO with K[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], A[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img].
1 fold, UTG+1 calls, MP1 raises, 1 fold, MP3 calls, Hero calls, 1 fold, SB calls, BB calls, UTG+1 calls.

Flop: (12 SB) 6[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], A[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], 5[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (6 players)
SB checks, BB checks, UTG+1 checks, MP1 checks, MP3 checks, Hero bets, SB folds, BB folds, UTG+1 folds, MP1 calls, MP3 calls.

Turn: (7.50 BB) T[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (3 players)
MP1 checks, MP3 checks, Hero bets, MP1 calls, MP3 calls.

River: (10.50 BB) 7[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (3 players)
MP1 checks, MP3 bets, Hero folds, MP1 folds.

Final Pot: 11.50 BB

I figured the river had to have hit the opponent to the right of me. He had been calling the whole way, seemingly on a draw and then to suddenly bet on the river when the flush/straight card came kind of signaled that he had something better than TPTK.

I'm pretty sure I was beat at this point. However, what if a blank hit the river, such as the 2 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] or something like that? In this case, should I still bet after the two checks, or should I check behind and see a showdown?

`blind post`
OMG! DON'T FOLD THE RIVER!!! DOING SO WILL LABEL YOU AS A WEAK/TIGHT!!! Everyone and their grandmother realizes that the diamond is a scare card. If odds are that opponent bluffs here more than 1:11.5 (and they definitely are), then you HAVE to call. Failure to do so results in heart attacks when MP1 also calls and they both showdown hands like AQ and
QJ or something...

And you better have a #### good reason for not 3-betting preflop. That's as bad as folding for the river for one bet.

And if a blank falls on the river and you have to be told to bet (and call a raise) if it's checked to you, then you have more studying to do. May I suggest you go read SSHE?

*NOTE: Take this post with a grain of salt. I'm not a mean person, this is for your own good, and for the good of your poker career.

As stated in in SSH (Small Stakes Hold'hem): never fold a decent hand for 1 bet at the end when the pot is big. You are probably behind, but with the odds that the pot is laying you, you don't need to win very often for the call to be profitable.

Also, players at microlimits don't need a legitimate draw to call you on the flop & turn. I am often pleasantly surprised when my opponnents call me down all the way and then bet their 2nd best hand on the river when a scare card falls. They prevent me from missing a value bet!

That being said, if a safe card falls, value bet this river. Your opponents are too loose, make them pay!

Always take other ppl's advice with a spoonful of salt. Including mine: here goes!

As mentioned above, re-raise AK preflop, its a good hand, and only dominated by AA and KK

A passive player rarely lies with bets and raises. A tricky and/or aggressive player might often attempt to represent something s/he doesn't have. If your opponent didn't bluff and he had the flush that he represented, then you made a good fold, but we don't know that at this point. When it was your action, the pot had 11.5 bets (yes?) you can win 1 out of 10 times to make that profitable. I think you could have called him there (plus go for the over call, which can make up for the loss. SOmetimes mp1 folds, sometimes s/he calls. The showdown can have 12 bets in the pot (50% he folds, 50% mp1 calls. 11.5 + 0.5 = 12.0) Means you only need to win 1 out of 11 times to make the call profitable.

what if a blank hit the river, such as the 2 or something like that? In this case, should I still bet after the two checks, or should I check behind and see a showdown?

If a blank falls on the river, you're laughing! You likely have the best hand (given the action). Bet and get called, or they'll likely fold. *note* some people suggest checking the river because a worse hand won't call, and a better hand will call (or worse raise), making you lose an extra bet. At low limit games where players play almost any two cards, any two paint, and chase to the river, (in my xperience) they will call and flip over junk, hoping you bluffed the whole way! HAha

IMO folding the river shows weakness and may result in people betting into you more often, which is what you don't want to happen when you hold weak hands and /or draws.

i miss anything.....thoughts....?

Whenever you get AK, check the RAISE ANY button.

Call the river. You'll be catching bluffers often enough to make this a worthy call, and also for table image.
