Default Triple Draw 2nd Draw Smoothcall

triple draw 2-7

BB in this hand is pretty LAG, but not retardedly so.

I'm on the button and raise 2-5-8-T-A. BB 3-bets. I call.

BB draws 1. I discard the T and A and get 4-6 for 2-4-5-6-8

BB bets. I only call.

BB stays pat. I stay pat, intending to bet if checked to.

Thoughts?

I prefer a raise.

Generally, if you and your opp drew cards, then you should raise with any hand with which you plan to stay pat.

You have a good 8. Not only is the raise for value, but it will define the opp's hand better. If he stands pat on the 2nd and 3rd round and continues to bet into you (after you have raised and stood pat), then I would be not so comfortable raising on those rounds. And, if he draws cards, then you punished him while he was drawing.

8-6 heads-up is a good hand but, when he three-bet you and drew one, it is not a slowplaying hand since he may have made a better hand or has two draws to a better hand.

I think you'll be calling this one down, and betting if it is checked to you after the 2nd or 3rd draw. I guess you could raise after the first draw to gain information.

There's no point in smooth calling since once you stand pat your subterfuge was all for not.

there are two very valid points to not raising after the 2nd draw and it hasn't been mentioned yet.

I suppose one reason would be to get him to keep his pat 9 or a worse 8 and then charge him on the expensive draws. I can see reason to your line now.

this hand example is almost straight out of ss2.

the reason why smoothcalling is correct here sometiems is that by me just calling, my opponent will think i'm still drawing and might decide to stand pat with a T or a 9, and that ensures me the pot right there. by now the pot is big enough where i should do my best to win the pot rather than squeeze out every last value bet i can.

If i raise here he will likely dump his T or 9 and try to draw out on me.

Also if he has a pat hand better than mine I don't run the risk of getting 3-bet where I'll always want to see a showdown here with my hand.
